The Makeup Sex of Wine Promotions
I've been lax in promoting wines to the wine club, largely because the members have not been taking advantage of the deals. Well, I got a deal you cannot refuse, the Willis Hall 2004 Merlot at the same price Mr. Bell sells it to his wine club $22.39/bttl. Normally, I try to find wines and promote them at prices that make case purchases attractive, however, there are only two cases of this wine left in the world. A 2004 varietal from one of the best producers in the state at less than $24/bttl? Come on. This is the same wine we had on at the bar for $14/glass when we had to pay full price for it. To make it even better, I'll throw in the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon at the same price. But we need the orders in ASAP. Other people will be jumping on these wines. If you are not a member of the club, this is why you should be!
2004, Merlot - Columbia Valley
Merlot is one of the better-known grape varieties allowed in the classified red blends from the great Bordeaux region of France. Plantings of Merlot in Washington are vast, making perhaps the best-known red wine from the state. Merlot grapes, while prone to expressing the terroir of the vineyards where grown, typically produce wines with bright, forward-cherry flavors and smooth mouth-feels. Vintage 2004 was challenging due to an early-January freeze that resulted in the loss of grapes from many of the vineyards in eastern Washington. Nevertheless, this premium wine embodies the world-class character of Washington vineyards as manifested in the noble Merlot. Accompanying foods should be moderately herbed and spiced. Santé!
2004, Cabernet Sauvignon - Columbia Valley
UPDATE - WON A SILVER MEDAL AT THE 2007 FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL WINE CHALLENGE --- One of the best-known grape varieties world-wide, Cabernet Sauvignon defines elegance and structure in winemaking. Vintage 2004 was challenging due to an early-January freeze that resulted in the loss of grapes from many of the vineyards in eastern Washington. Nevertheless, this premium wine embodies the world-class character of Washington vineyards as manifested in the noble Cabernet Sauvignon. While approachable early, this wine will age under favorable storage conditions for several years. Accompanying foods should be boldly spiced, herbed, and peppered. This wine should be vigorously decanted prior to serving. Santé!
We had another excellent extravaganza this weekend. We are blowing the weekly tasting wines out at values to make case purchases very attractive.

- Sept 18 - Wine extravaganza/Art Walk
- Sept 25 - Wines from Idaho with Orcas Dist.
Train Wreck Zin Wine Dinner 9/26
Put it on your calendars. I’m collecting big wines and serving them with a menu from Chef Rocky of the Prohibition. You want big? You want fruity? You want hot? We got that. We got bacon ice cream. We got the best wine dinner we’ve ever had coming your way.
